Explosive Ordnance Disposal Facility, MacDill AFB, Tampa FL

Request for Proposal Request for Proposal (RFP) documents in association with working with the USACE selected 8a Contractor to provide this Design/Build package which is comparable to a 35% level of design. The new Explosive Ordnance Disposal Facility is required to accommodate 18 full time personnel and multiple Government vehicles. The Facility includes spaces for administrative offices and training, conditioned storage/shops spaces, and vehicle garage bays. Site improvements include utilities, stormwater management, paved parking and required turning area. Administrative areas require private and open office areas. The training and maintenance areas of this facility are specific to the EOD's needs.
Objective: Provide a facility with efficient and functional layout, energy efficient, low operating costs, durable, and minimal maintenance.

Inspection and Design for the Repairs of 94 Relocatable Buildings - Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC

Lindbergh & Associates was tasked to conduct a topographic survey, complete visual inspections and report plans/specifications for repair of 94 temporary facilities in a short duration. The complex consisted of one and two-story barracks, headquarters, Dining Facilities (DFAC), and administration, and classroom facilities. The scope of work included identifying the multiple deficiencies within these systems and categorized the observed deficiencies according to ASTM 1557-09 as well as noted deficiencies related to the ADA compliance of each facility. Design solutions of all deficiencies were then implemented, cost estimates were provided and the project was awarded for construction. Lindbergh and Associates is currently performing Construction Administration on the repairs.
Objective: Investigation of existing building components, develop list for repairs, establish construction costs, and develop plans/specifications for repairs.

Special Missions Training Branch(SMTB) Battle Course, Marine Corps Base(MCB) - Camp Pendleton, CA

Lindbergh & Associates served as lead designer on this unique design-build project contracted through the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW). The team provided architectural and engineering design services for a Sniper House, Control Tower, Target Façade, and infantry target emplacement electrical work for a new Battle Course at Camp Pendleton.
Objective: To construct two-story 3,135 square foot Sniper House and 300 square foot Control Tower with an observation deck/lightning protection.
Highlights: 34 hard-wired stationary infantry target (SIT) emplacements; 12 hard wired moving infantry target (MIT) emplacements, 10 target carriages, and two-story façade with target emplacements

Barracks & Housing
Kiawah Homes Modernization - Charleston, SC

Lindbergh & Associates surveyed the existing site and developed the new Exterior Arts and Crafts exterior design as well as new landscaping and site design of 31 unit 1950's vintage duplexes in the Kiawah homes neighborhood. Work was completed under an IDC A/E Contract with the City of Charleston Housing Authority. The new exterior design and site features transformed the neighborhood into a new vibrant community.
Objective:To develop new Exterior Arts and Crafts design for the renovation of the exterior of 31 Homes in the Kiawah neighborhood. Site parking and landscaping improvements.

Afghanistan National Army- Afghanistan Border Patrol - Afghanistan National Police

Through a contract with one of our large business partners, Lindbergh & Associates supported USACE MED’s Project and Contracting Office (PCO) in its mission to secure borders in Afghanistan. Complete designs, specifications, design analysis and construction cost estimates were prepared for multiple Afghanistan bases and agencies. Each design project included structures/buildings, infrastructure and force protection requirements to house, feed, train, protect, maintain and sustain elements of the Afghan Police or Army. Building types included Administration, Dining Facility (DFAC), Training, Toilet & Shower Facilities, Barracks, Logistics Facility, Warehouse, Laundry, Vehicle Maintenance Facility, Ammunition Supply, Guard Shack, Gate House, Guard Towers, Canopies, and Well House. Lindbergh & Associates also provided “boots on the ground” for construction administration support for these projects
Objective: Provide secure borders in Afghanistan.
Highlights: International Design, Large Multi-disciplinary design team consisted of architects, engineers (civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural), quality assurance, CADD support and cost estimators).

Headquarters & Office
437th Airlift Wing Headquarters, Charleston AFB, SC

Lindbergh & Associates was the A/E of choice for a Design/Build project to reconfigure and renovate a two-story structure, approximately 42,000 square-foot structure accommodating the 437th Airlift Wing Headquarters, office space, Mission Support Group, miscellaneous wing, and group administrative support functions for BRAC required for conversion to Joint Base Charleston. Lindbergh & Associates provided architectural and interior design services, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering; specifically addressing floor plan reconfiguration, lighting, power, communication systems, automatic fire protection water service, fire hydrants, and alarm systems.
Objective: New floor plan design and addition of fire protection while maintaining day-to-day operations.
Highlights: Special phasing was implemented to maintain all operational utilities (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Communications) for occupied areas of the facility during construction. Construction cost of $3M

Unified Security Forces Operations Facility, McGuire AFB, NJ

Lindbergh & Associates served on the lead A/E team on a $6.6M Design-Build project contracted through the US Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District to provide architectural and engineering design services for the Unified Security Forces Operations Facility, a new 21,000 square foot, two-story brick and stucco structure located at McGuire AFB. The project includes all of the civil, architectural, interiors, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection design work. The facility will act as a state-of-the-art Security and Communications hub for Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. It was designed to attain a Silver Certification under the guidelines of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), with the team providing LEED commissioning services.
The new facility is designed using Building Information Model (BIM) software and will include spaces such as the state of the art control center, administrative offices, interview rooms, holding cells, armory/weapons storage, secure storage, NIPRNET rooms, SIPRNET room, conference rooms, stairwells, and shower and locker room facilities.
Objective: Provide architectural/engineering design services for Unified Security Forces Operations Facility; a new 21,000 square foot two-story brick/stucco structure located at McGuire AFB.

Planning & Community
Pepperhill Sports Complex – North Charleston, SC

Under an existing IDC Lindbergh & Associates provided the survey and wetlands delineation and then developed the master plan for a 20-acre neighborhood sports complex for the City of North Charleston. The large previously undeveloped parcel contained 5 acres of wetland that had to be mitigated or preserved. The new design consists of three baseball fields, two soccer fields, parking for approximately 250 vehicles and a restroom/concession/community facility.
Objective: New sports complex to service the community’s recreational and athletic needs.

First Baptist Church Education Building - Eutawville SC

Lindbergh & Associates completed the architectural, structural, civil engineering and surveying services for a renovation of the existing 1950’s sanctuary structure for code upgrades and renovation into educational and multipurpose space. The renovated building now blends easily with the existing church campus in terms of aesthetics and both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Lindbergh & Associates provided the master plan and survey of the property for future facilities and parking. Lindbergh & Associates team members also provided the architectural design services for the interior renovation of an existing metal building into a 9000 square foot multi-purpose kitchen/fellowship hall and worship facility.
Objective: Code upgrades implemented into existing 1950’s sanctuary structure for the First Baptist Church Multipurpose Building in Eutawville, SC; renovated space provides educational and multipurpose areas.
Highlights:New building blends easily with the existing church campus in terms of aesthetics and both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Gadsden Green -

Lindbergh & Associates provided surveying, a complete interior and exterior renovation for a 2,700 square foot existing historic community center/office space, and sanitary sewer improvements for the Gadsen Green neighborhood. The interior renovations included re-leveling the settled floor, efficient office layout, bathroom ADA improvements, providing a new lobby, kitchen revisions, and completely new finishes. The exterior scope of work included replacement of all exterior doors and hardware, new roof shingles, gutters, downspouts, and entrance canopies.
Objective:West Side Management offices needed interior reconfiguration, new exterior entry presence on President Street, thermal envelope improvement, and enhanced ADA compliance.
Highlights: All work received City of Charleston Architectural Review approval.

Addition/Repair Aero Port Squadron Facility - Charleston Air Force Base, SC

Lindbergh & Associates provided complete, detailed drawings, specifications, andcost estimates for the Addition and Repair of the APS Facility at the Base. The Firm performed a Charrette with AF personnel at the site and developed specific base, user and equipment requirements. The firm also performed all necessary site investigation, and field research as necessary to obtain design information.
Objective: Repair/Addition to existing Aerial Delivery high-bay portion of Building 174 to facilitate building, rigging, handling, and storage of heavy equipment airdrop loads and to provide access for equipment handling vehicles.

Anniston Army Depot, Anniston, AL

Lindbergh and Associates provided architectural and structural design for an O’Brien & Gere/Crowder Construction design-build project for industrial wastewater treatment plant to treat 600 million with process design provisions to support up to 1 million gallon per day at the Anniston Army Depot. The project involved the construction of a fully redundant treatment train in a new location to replace the outdated systems currently in use. The project utilizes a client-prescribed treatment metals precipitation and BOD/TSS treatment. Design includes process validation and optimization, equipment sizing, site master planning, and operational protocols to respond to influent shock loads. The $30M project was executed as a fast-tracked design-build. Operational testing, startup and transition to the new plant were performed without disruption of round-the-clock operations at this critical Department of Defense facility.

Healthcare & Laboratory
Wildlife Health Facility Renovation - University of Georgia , Athens GA

Lindbergh & Associates was selected to design the Renovation of approximately 7,200 square foot of existing interior space to provide wet laboratory space for the college’s use in parasitology research. The renovation was required for the development of new research labs to a BSL-2 standard including replacing the existing building HVAC systems to support this new use.
Objective: Renovation of existing art studio into highly technical laboratory.
Highlights: $1.4M renovation project, conducted field investigation, floor plan development, sited new mechanical room to house new HVAC equipment.

Belle Hall Eye Care – Mt. Pleasant, SC

Lindbergh & Associates provided multi-disciplinary Architectural and Engineering services for a retail optical/optician’s office in Mt. Pleasant, SC, a 5000 square foot facility requiring services of the full team of surveyors, Landscape Architects, Civil Engineers, Architects, Structural Engineers, and MEP Engineers. Several conceptual computerized renderings of the proposed buildings and key illustrations aided client understanding of proposed design product; produced completed construction document package for the previous chosen contractor of this design/build project.

Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center - Augusta, GA

Lindbergh & Associates was retained to create a comprehensive design, energy study, and construction documents for the entire envelope replacement of the 700,000 square foot facility. The design team was tasked with providing a new envelope that performs 30% better than the existing 1977 building. Design includes replacement of all exterior aluminum and storefront windows, curtainwall, exterior doors and louvers, and interior renovations at existing exterior walls. Also provided an energy study indicating the life-cycle costs of the renovation and projected energy savings.
Objective: Comprehensive design, energy study, and construction documents for the entire envelope replacement of the 700,000 square foot facility.
Highlights: Superior thermal performance maintained while improving aesthetics and within the budget requirements.

Ralph Johnson VA Medical Center – Charleston, SC

Lindbergh & Associates was awarded the design of the one-story, 21,000 square foot Mental Health Research addition. Proposed work included demolition of an existing pre-engineered building and modular offices, modification to the structural pavements, relocation of utilities, installation of a foundation for a five-story building, and the construction of one-story to be used for mental health exam rooms, wet laboratory space, and supporting administration space. This addition also provides a new emergency entry to the facility. The design required a completely piled foundation and a reinforced concrete slab substructure that was necessary to prevent grade level changes of utilities, improve site access, and permit building addition.
Objective: Design a one-story expansible structure to have the structural capacity to be expanded vertically, matching the existing floor elevations at all five floors.
Highlights: Seismic, life safety, and fire protection included wet-pipe sprinkler protection, compartmentalization, and interior fire alarm and detection system. The ground level connection to the existing building required modifications and renovations to existing adjacent spaces, walls, and windows.

Energy & Sustainability
Steam Study - US Army Corps of Engineers; Columbia, SC

Lindbergh & Associates performed an analysis of the entire site steam system and developed options to reduce energy usage and operating costs for this project at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn (WJBD) Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC. The study considers new boilers, new energy sources, condensate recovery, steam and condensate piping optimization; both steam supply and steam usage opportunities to reduce costs. The study also shows current future optimized state if viable reduction opportunities are taken. Staff also investigated the delivery of new energy alternatives to increase energy conservation and reduce usage by 30/40/50%; provided evaluation of one or more alternatives to eliminate steam, and analysis of alternate plant locations.
Objective: Analysis of the entire site steam system and options to reduce energy usage and operating costs.

Boiler Upgrade Design - VA Medical Center; Gainesville, FL

Lindbergh & Associates designed and coordinated necessary information with current Bed Tower Contractor to ensure accurate design of the new demands. The team sized and recommended energy efficient boiler types. The design included necessary ancillary equipment associated with boilers and the benefits of installing a smaller boiler to satisfy summer season demand were also evaluated. Steam demands for winter and summer seasons were established for existing buildings and the new Bed Tower presently under construction. Estimated square footage for seven buildings to be serviced by boilers is 800,000 square feet.
Objective: The team studied, evaluated, and recommended procedures and a phasing plan for the replacement three 40+ year old boilers.

Utilities & Infrastructure
South Post Master Plan, Fort Drum - Watertown, NY

The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive plan for construction of facilities at the South Post as well as the area surrounding the parade field on North Post. The majority of the existing facilities in the Fort Drum South Post are substandard WWII wood slated for demolition in accordance with Army Regulation 420-1. Army Facilities Management's goal was to eliminate most WWII temporary buildings on Active Army garrisons and provide a plan for the new construction. Lindbergh & Associates developed the master plan for subject study areas of the South Post of the Fort Drum military base located 10 miles Northeast of Watertown, NY. Tasks under this contract included: Analysis of facility requirements, area facility planning, cost estimating, and documentation preparation.

NAVFAC Southeast Headquarters Facility - Jacksonville, FL

Lindbergh & Associates was selected to provide the Architectural portion of the RFP of the new approximately 57,000 square-foot facility and the renovation of approximately 20,000 square feet of existing space on NAS JAX. The architectural group led an on-site programming charrette to determine functional/special requirements, developed block plans and adjacency diagrams to facilitate decision on optimal floor number, provided site placement alternatives, facility staffing, and led discussions of ideal placement of Integrated Project Teams (IPT’s) and Business/Support line staff into the 3 additional buildings.
Objective: RFP for a new two-story administrative facility with elevator, raised access flooring with under air distribution and movable wall systems to house engineering and acquisition functions and special spaces.
