These two masonry structures were built in the 1850’s as part of a gas plant by the Carolina Gas Light Company, a forerunner of SCE&G. The larger of the two buildings is still in service by SCE&G and houses controls for an electric substation and long distance communications equipment. The restoration work included substantial masonry repairs, the removal of later additions, restoration of the slate roof on the small building. The restoration program was developed by Lindbergh & Associates.
